Ray Township is to the east, Shelby Township is to the south, and Bruce Township is to the north. The village of Romeo is partially in the northeast part of the township. Washington Township is in northwestern Macomb County and is bordered to the west by Oakland County. Westview Orchards was founded in what is now Washington Township in 1813. It is home to the historic Octagon House, built by Loren Andrus from 1858 to 1860.
Washington Township was organized in 1827.
